Packaging to Prevent Hunger & Waste

The hospital began participating in a community based program, where appropriate leftover food is donated. This zero waste promise ensures that all food not eaten from the cafeteria and café is packaged and given to those in need.

The other volunteers and I helped prepare the excess hot line lunch from the day before: bbq chicken, corn, rice, and vegetable barley soup. Meals were arranged in a three part container and refrigerated until picked up by the community center.

From the day prior, we also bagged up pulled pork and vacuum sealed it to be frozen and re-purposed at a later date- possibly in quesadillas.

Being part of this cause is very rewarding: knowing people will be fed and that perfect, yummy, and healthy food is not thrown out.
